'An appealingly layered nose reflects notes of mostly white orchard fruit, citrus confit, tidal pool and shellfish. The rich, concentrated and punchy flavors flash plenty of minerality that adds a sense of lift to the balanced and caressing finish. This could use better depth but a few years of keeping should help.' 88-91 points - Allen Meadows, Burghound
"Very crystalline. Plenty of fresh yellow fruit on the attack, smoother and broader across the palate, and then a slightly sterner finish with a bit of spice. Coriander? Drink from 2026-2031." 89-90 Points and 4 Stars - Jasper Morris MW, Inside Burgundy
Vauclaire lies on the left bank of the Serein River, close to Vosgros and Dessus la Carrière, and is the largest single Chablis parcel in the Picq holdings. Planted in the mid-1980s, the site covers just over four acres and plays a central role in shaping the domaine’s village-level Chablis.
Vauclaire is always vinified and matured on its own, giving Didier Picq the freedom to assess its character without compromise. Through repeated tastings during élevage, a decision is made each year: only in vintages that combine both high quality and sufficient volume will part of the wine be bottled as a standalone cuvée. In leaner or less expressive seasons, the parcel is directed entirely into the Chablis villages bottling.
Even in strong years, a substantial proportion of Vauclaire is reserved for the main Chablis cuvée, reinforcing its depth, drive and consistency. When released on its own, Vauclaire offers a focused, linear expression of left-bank Chablis; precise, mineral and quietly authoritative.
