This is a hard yes. It’s both flavoursome and frisky, it’s long through the finish, it has texture but it keeps up the momentum. Stonefruit, flint, nashi pear, a umami note and flashes of nougat and cedar. Everything here is in alignment and in harmony. It’s another beautiful chardonnay from Bannockburn.
2024 was a warm dry harvest and the team had to work hard to successfully remove all the over-ripe fruit.. The acidity though, was sufficient for winemaker Matt Holmes not to block the MLF giving a complexing and richness inducing effect. GM Gus Pollard says that longevity will be a feature of these wines, including the chardonnay that is tightly wound, with tension and not at all relaxed, albeit in the Bannockburn style of cashews, ripe pineapple, fleshy stone fruits, grapefruit and brioche. There is ample weight, density textural complexity and pleasing generosity. This is a continuation of the general upwards curve of quality that Bannockburn has been experiencing in recent years.
