We have been buying more and more of David’s whites that not as lean and tight as a Chablis, but not as big and rich as its adjoining neighbour, Chassagne, to the north. This has a “noble reduction” and lovely tightness with impressive density.
David says that the Fanleaf virus causes a lot of “hen and chicken” (millerandage) so there are a huge number of tiny berries less than or equal to pea-size. This gives increased concentration also added to by the 30% reduction in crop. There is 100% barrel fermentation here but no new oak, and this has a nice "doughy" yeast lees complexity, lime, lemongrass and grapefruit freshness and some nice body too. It's really impressive and stylish for this price! Randall
