Producer note: François Bertheau, who manages this 6.23 ha domaine (half of which is in villages-level vineyards), said in his typically understated laconic manner that 2024 "gave me my smallest harvest ever and I've been doing this for a very long time. My yields were off on average fully 60% though some parcels were even worse and some a bit better. It's ironic in its fashion that in 2023 the fermenters were so full that I had to carefully watch the temperatures to be sure that they didn't overheat due to the sheer volumes. However, in 2024 it was also necessary to watch the temperatures but in this case, to be sure that they weren't too low such that the fermentations stopped! I used no new wood during the élevage and the wines have surprisingly improved month by month. I think it's a vintage where the wines will drink well young as they're just so energetic and delicate that it won't be necessary to age them for an extended period first." Bertheau further noted that the 2024s would see about 20% new wood and reiterated that the wines are never fined or filtered.
Tasting note: A pure and airy nose combines the essence of red pinot fruit with spice and discreet floral wisps. The caressing, delicious and vibrant middle weight flavors possess an attractive mid-palate texture that contrasts mildly with the ever-so-mildly edgy finish. This lightly austere effort was displaying quite a bit of gas so it's quite possible that the edginess of the finish is attributable to its presence. Tasted: Jan 10, 2026
87-90 points – Allen Meadows, Burghound
François Bertheau has found the vivid and fruity side of the 2024 vintage. The Chambolle village is rather cool and vivid. Classic Chambolle minerality with fine acidity and refined mid-palate fruit. A delightful village … moderate density … but showing very well.
