2022 Domaine Pavillon Beaujolais Blanc ‘Le Chardonnay’ The Chardonnay comes from Quincie en Beaujolais which is a parcel in front of the Domaine (base of Mont Brouilly). "It used to be Beaujolais Village at the time of my grand mother. It's nice soil for Chardonnay. FYI, only 2% of Chardonnay is planted in Beaujolais." Le Mont Brouilly is 100% Cru, Côte de Brouilly. There are no chardonnay vines planted on the volcanic slope of Mt. Brouilly." says Laure Jambon, vigneronne. There is a Chablisesque element to this wine, and a huge “value” element! It has a purity of chardonnay fruit, chalky / rocky elements and some plush stone-fruit richness and lees-ageing bready complexity. It’s dry, delightfully savoury, dangerously easy to drink and satisfying.
2021 Narjoux Normand Mercurey Rouge This has a youthful and deep colour, vivid red – purple. The fruit driven aromas are intense, plummy, spice box and fresh berry inflected.
This is a very deep and rich wine with a riot of red and dark berry fruit, some ferric / and rocky minerality. The tannins are ripe, the depth and richness almost unbelievable for a village wine; a little cellar time is needed; or a big steak! The 2.3ha of vines are split between 2 plots (10-50yo), one just above and adjacent to 1er Cru Montaigu, and the other about 500mt SW on a gently sloping site. This wine has some whole bunches added to give more "freshness", and has a little more new oak than the Bourgogne. It's bottled after 12 months in barrel and about 6 months in tank. Cheers, Randall
